Learning Objectives:

Participants will describe their childhood relationship to music and compare and contrast this relationship with their current personal and clinical relationship with music. II A I. F and G

Participants will compare the author’s experiences as a recipient of care and as a music therapy advocate, and describe and discuss their own experiences in roles of recipient of care and as the caregiver. II A I. F and G

Participants will discuss the authors’ career transition and describe their own areas for desired growth in their current position and/or future transitions. IV A-1, B-13

Prerequisites: Board Certified Music Therapist, purchase or own copy of the book

Instructor: Robin Spielberg is one of America’s most beloved pianist/composers. With an impressive tour schedule and hundreds of thousands of recordings sold, this Steinway Artist has been winning the hearts of listeners around the world with her compelling melodies and sensitive piano technique since debuting her first recording of original solos for piano, Heal of the Hand. A prolific composer, Spielberg has sixteen recordings to her credit and appears on over 40 compilations around the world. Her discography includes albums of original piano solos, arrangements of American standards, original pieces for piano/ensemble, recordings for the holidays, a CD of Americana melodies, and a CD of lullabies. Robin is an artist-spokesperson for the American Music Therapy Association.

Course Schedule and Format:

Music Therapy Book Club Standardized Self- Study Courses are designed to provide an in-depth learning experience based upon a music therapy or related text. Select participants attend a conference call “Book Club Discussion” with the author in which information related to the book is discussed. Other participants may receive and utilize the audio of the discussion. This is followed by self-study assignments which are completed and submitted to the continuing education director. The participant may then submit all assignments to receive 3 CMTE credits.

Book Club Discussion: 50 minutes of in-depth audio engagement with author and material. Recorded discussion. Those taking the course after the initial call will receive an audio download of the discussion with their course materials.

Assignments: Self Study 100 minutes of participant interaction and engagement with material as outlined in the learning objectives, completed independently by the participant encouraging in-depth integration of material with career growth, clinical practice, practical or creative applications.

3 CMTE Credits will be awarded upon completion of this course as outlined above.
